The tour leaves Reno, west on I-80
driving by the old historic town of Truckee, California, Squaw Valley USA,
(where the 1960 Winter Olympics were held) on our way to Lake Tahoe.
Traveling the east side
of Lake Tahoe, you can view the beauty of surrounding
mountains and the crystal-clear waters of the largest alpine lake
in North America.
As we approach the South
Shore of Lake Tahoe, we will drive through Stateline on the
Nevada-California border where, nestled between snow-capped
mountains, you can see Harvey's and Harrah's.
Then traveling over
Kingsbury Grade, we make our way along the Pony Express route to
Genoa, the oldest permanent settlement in Nevada.
Then on through Carson City,
Nevada's State Capital, with it's beautiful native sandstone
state buildings and the Carson City Mint.
Then into the Comstock Territory and Virginia
City, established in 1859 and once was the richest mining town in
the world. In Virginia City, with it's wooden sidewalks,
"Old West" saloons and Victorian mansions, you
can walk in the shadows of these historic buildings and churches,
as Mark Twain did in the late 1800's, and relive the heritage of
the Old West around every corner.
While in Virginia City, you will be treated to a free full lunch and have the opportunity to explore the sights with a three hour layover. Leaving
Virginia City, the day winds down Geiger Grade with it's
breathtaking views of mountains, Washoe Valley and Reno below. A day to be remembered!
